作為我國(guó)運(yùn)載火箭中唯一同時(shí)具備發(fā)射近地軌道、太陽(yáng)同步軌道、地球同步轉(zhuǎn)移軌道以及大橢圓軌道衛(wèi)星能力的運(yùn)載火箭，長(zhǎng)二丙火箭在1982年之后的10年間承擔(dān)起了我國(guó)所有返回式衛(wèi)星的運(yùn)載工作。

1999年，由于長(zhǎng)征二號(hào)丙改進(jìn)型火箭連續(xù)7次成功發(fā)射銥星及其模擬星，加上此前長(zhǎng)征二號(hào)丙系列火箭連續(xù)14次發(fā)射成功，原航天工業(yè)總公司授予長(zhǎng)征二號(hào)丙改火箭“金牌火箭”的光榮稱號(hào)。
