Managing Your Time at College
Students report another source of freshman anxiety: the amount of unstructured time. This is one of the major differences between high school and college. In high school you may have felt that you were constantly scheduled, with very few breaks. In college your classes may be spaced out during the day, with free time between each class. Or they may be bunched up into a few days, mornings, or afternoons—leaving large periods of "leisure" time.另一個(gè)讓新生感到焦慮的是：大把沒有規(guī)劃好的時(shí)間。這是高中和大學(xué)的一大區(qū)別。在高中，你可能會覺得時(shí)間總是被安排好，很少有休息的時(shí)間。而在大學(xué)，你的課程可能會分散在一天，每節(jié)課之間都有空余時(shí)間。或者，課程堆積在幾天、幾個(gè)上午或下午——留出大把的“休閑”時(shí)間。
Sound good? The challenge is managing your "free" time. There can be many demands on this time: studying, attending clubs, eating, working, and exercising, just to name a few. It is up to you to work it out.聽起來很美好？但這也帶來了挑戰(zhàn)：你必須管理好“自由”時(shí)間，可以用來學(xué)習(xí)、參加社團(tuán)、吃飯、工作和鍛煉，等等，取決于你。
Here's a bit of advice many experienced college students offer: Don't procrastinate. There is nothing worse than approaching the end of a semester and realizing you have an impossible mountain of work to do. By all means, have a good time—but keep in mind why you are in college in the first place.
很多有經(jīng)驗(yàn)的大學(xué)生會提出這么一條建議：不要拖延。一個(gè)學(xué)期快結(jié)束，而你才意識到還有堆積如山的工作要完成，沒有什么比這個(gè)更糟糕的了。無論如何，盡興而為——但首先要記住你為什么要上大學(xué)。
我們看一下語言點(diǎn)：
第一段中，unstructured time表示“沒有規(guī)劃好的時(shí)間”，和下文的leisure time, free time是同義替換。
space out是space的一個(gè)新用法，意思是to arrange things with a wide space between them“使間隔開”。《衛(wèi)報(bào)》中曾有篇文章認(rèn)為暑假太長，應(yīng)該把暑假分成幾個(gè)小假期，分散在一學(xué)年里，這樣學(xué)生既不會忘掉知識，也不至于學(xué)習(xí)太累，而且家長的負(fù)擔(dān)也小。文中是這么說的：
This would give teachers and children a similar amount of holiday, just spaced more evenly over the year.
這樣一來，老師和學(xué)生的假期基本不變，只是在一年中分布更均勻。space out和下文的bunch up是一對反義表達(dá)，bunch常作名詞，表示“一束”，比如a bunch of flowers；此處作動詞，表示“集中、聚攏”（“聚攏”在一起才叫“一束花”），常見搭配為bunch up / together，文中指課程集中在幾天、或幾個(gè)上午、下午，和space out所描述的情形正好相反。
第二段中，just to name a few常用于舉例子中，表示“等等”，可以替換我們常用的and so on. 此外，也可以說to name but a few.
第三段中，procrastinate指“拖延”，這個(gè)一定要背過了。俗話說的好，deadline是第一生產(chǎn)力。都是procrastination給害的。
