當(dāng)校長開上寶馬車

For seven out of the past ten years I’ve taught Englishand history in

China, so Ihave had a firsthand view of the pros and cons of China’s

education system. Here’s afew points I wanted to bring up:

我待在中國的十年時間內(nèi)有七年擔(dān)任英語及歷史教師，因而我對中國教育制度的

優(yōu)缺點有著切身的感官。以下是我總結(jié)的幾點問題：

1. Perhaps most important is the huge difference betweenhow Chinese

and Americans value an university education. In China, highschool and

the gaokao exam scores are the apex of many students’ education.While

the prestige of the university is very important for parents

andstudents, the quality of education that a student receives at

university is notalways of the greatest concern.

1、中美最大的不同之處可能在于他們對大學(xué)教育價值的不同認(rèn)知。在中國，大

學(xué)以及高考成績成為很多學(xué)生們的最高追求。家長以及學(xué)生們更看重大學(xué)所帶來

的光環(huán)，而教育質(zhì)量往往不是他們關(guān)注的焦點。

2. Many private universities are simply diploma mills.There is little

reason to study if you know you will receive your degreeregardless of

your class performance. In turn, faculty and administrators

lackincentive to improve their programs because parents and students

often are moreconcerned about receiving a degree than receiving a

quality education.

2、很多民辦學(xué)校淪為文憑工廠。如果你知道不管你的學(xué)業(yè)表現(xiàn)如何，你都可以

拿到大學(xué)文憑，那么你就沒有理由再去學(xué)習(xí)了。而學(xué)校的老師及管理層也不愿在

改善專業(yè)教學(xué)上下力氣，因為他們知道家長以及學(xué)生們只要拿大文憑就行了，無

所謂教學(xué)質(zhì)量。

3. There is a degree of economic mismanagement in highschools and

universities that would not be tolerated in a developed Westernnation.

I have heard stories about families bribing teachers and

administratorsso that their children can receive passing scores. Money

is spent on projectsbeautifying school grounds and for administrators'

travels, rather than onsalaries for the faculty. Also, top school

administrators all drive very fancycars, yet it’s widely known that

their salaries could not possibly permit themto buy such vehicles.

3、中國的高中以及大學(xué)存在著一些西方社會無法容忍的經(jīng)濟問題。我曾聽說有

家長為了學(xué)生能夠通過考試而賄賂教職人員。大學(xué)的資金通常被用于美化校園環(huán)

境以及領(lǐng)導(dǎo)人員旅游，而不是提高教師工資。而且，一些學(xué)校高層領(lǐng)導(dǎo)都開著豪

車，而我們都知道，他們的工資負(fù)擔(dān)不起這樣的奢華。
